"WHAT ARE YOUR BIG IDEAS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF GAMES?”

Want to make some money from your ideas about videogames? Write an essay or do a project which answers this question: "What role do you think videogames will play in the coming years?" Examine whatever aspect of this that you want to. For example:

  • How and where will they be used?
  • What benefits could they provide for society?
  • What are some important topics games can be used to explore?

Be as creative as you can. You can support your ideas with concepts from current technology, economics, psychology, sociology, or even current news and trends.

We are accepting essays, films, short stories, flash comics, or any other format as long as they answer the question. There's no minimum number of words or minimum film length, but please keep essays and stories to under 2500 words and films and flash to under 15 minutes.

One grand prize winner will receive $100 for the most creative and insightful entry, and there will be up to 4 secondary winners who will receive $50. All of these winners will have an opportunity to talk about their ideas at an upcoming gaming research meeting. Films or flash projects may be featured in an upcoming Emerging Digerati session.

Entries can be e-mailed to inms@umn.edu or dropped off at 313 Murphy Hall. The contest deadline is Friday, January 28, 2005. Winners will present their work at a GRAVEL event in February.
