Season 3

February 7, 2005

Diane Willow is a multi-modal artist. Working at the intersection of art, science and technology, she experiments with hybrid media to explore the dynamics of nature, technology and community. Her public installations, interactive environments and evocative objects involve media as eclectic as bioluminescent organisms, microcomputers and time-lapsed video. She invites people to engage in multi-sensory explorations as participants and choreographers rather than as viewers. She is interested in exploring the subtle ways that we express empathy with one another, with other life forms and in relation to responsive objects, immersive environments and interactive media.
New to the UMN faculty, Diane looks forward to future collaborations as she presents her current and emerging work. She will also introduce some of the new directions she is developing in her themed-based courses with tangible media within the area of Time and Interactivity in the Department of Art.
